The Fright In The Woods
In the midst of the chaos that is a typical morning for the cookieboodoll’s household, Lea perks up with her definition of an ideal solution; a walk through the local forest.
“We could find tadpoles and raise them into strong frogs!” she suggests with a whimsical expression.
“Ew no, tadpoles are gross” interrupts the feisty Jessica from the other side of the room.
“Jessie, don’t be rude towards my cousin” defends the love of Jessica’s life, Ariana.
“But frogs are disgusting”
“I’m sorry Lea, Jessica is too much of a scary cat to take a walk in the forest”
“I’m not scared of any forests, I just hate dirt, trees and slimy creatures”
Ariana ignores Jessica’s childish comments.
“I bet if you called Delilah she would go with you”
“That’s a good idea” Lea says providing Ariana with a grateful smile to hide that she is some what disappointed her cousin wished to stay with her girl friend rather than spend time with her.
Lea dials up her fairy loving friend to which she receives a quick response from. “I’m a fairy” the phone declares- that is both Delilah’s catch phrase and motto.
“Hi Dee, do you want to come on a walk to the forest with me?”
“Do I? I would love to, woodland is the perfect place for a fairy like me!”
“Well that settles it, I’ll see you in five”
Lea reaches for her favourite hat, a green crochet beanie with frog eyes attached to it. She giggles with excitement as she plants it on her head with swift motion. After a few minutes a knock can be heard from the door, Lea rushes over and swings it open. Delilah stands barefooted in a frilly tutu and blush pink crop top juxtaposing with Lea’s hiking boots and casual wear. The two glide off towards the woodland trail, exchanging fun conversation.
Due to her lack of foot protection, as the two draw nearer towards the pond, Delilah fails to keep up with the enthusiastic pace of Lea. Delilah trails behind Lea, sighing each time a stone or twig punctures itself into her toes.
“My feet hurt, Lea slow down” Delilah protests.
“We’re so close to the pond, you can take a break then”
“But I’m covered in bruises and blisters”
“Well you insist on never wearing shoes”
“Shoes are a social construct, fairies do not need them!”
“Are you sure about that? It looks like you could do with some”
The girls found themselves bickering, meanwhile a large, sly dog approaches. In a doll’s perspective, seeing a large dog is the equivalent of seeing a grizzly bear, it’s frightening and dangerous. Lea sees the dog first, an excitable Dalmatian, triple the size of them.
“Delilah be quiet”
“No I will not be quiet, you are so rude, why does it bother you that I don’t wear shoes?”
“Delilah, trust me on this one you will want to be quiet”
“Trust you, how about you trust me, shoes are for fools!”
The dog pants and smirks at Delilah, she most have looked like a perfect chew toy for them!
“DELILAH, RUN!”
“AHHHH SCARY DOG, WHY DIDN’T YOU WARN ME?”
“I did but you were too busy getting defensive over your blisters!”
“LET’S FLY!”
Lea and Delilah make a run for it, once they have fled the forest they feel rush of relief.
“That was a close one!” Lea exclaims.
“I know right, I was almost fairy cake for that beast!”
“I’m sorry that I insulted your way of life Delilah, I shouldn’t have done that”
“It’s okay, sometimes I can be intense and rude, I’m sorry if I hurt you”
“So are we’re still friends?”
“No, we’re best friends!”
The two share a laugh and head inside, they finish their adventure off with a tasty vegan pizza, to which Jessica disapproves off.
